Raw Week

Okay, so the raw week went great, with exception of Wednesday when I got off the track onto some cooked quinoa….but except for that and after that the rest of the week was pure fruits-vegetables-nuts&seeds. Results: plenty of energy during the whole week, and even some lost kilograms, which was not really the purpose but came as a nice bonus. So would of course totally recommend this kind of thing to anyone when feeling heavy/bloated/lack-of-energy/etc. Funny, there was practically no super hunger this whole week, fruits&vegs were totally enough. But I have to admit that I’ve been eating my raw sweets all the way which might have somewhat helped.

Here’s one of the salads I’ve had:

Ingredients:

  • 1 average carrot chopped
  • 1 large tomato chopped
  • 1 small cucumber sliced
  • handful of mixed greens
  • 1/2 avocado chopped
  • salt&pepper to taste
  • pumpkin seeds
  • a bit of grapeseed oil

Salad with Tangerines & Guac, and other things I ate today

Started with a huge carrot+orange+lemon juice. This week I do my juicing daily, as it keeps me on my raw week track.

Then a salad with home made guacamole:

Raw Vegan Cacao Bites

Inspired by Raw Livies cookies from a Vancouver Island brand, I decided to make these raw vegan cacao bites at home. Here’s my version of these awesome light raw cookies (and I use real although frozen cranberries in it!):

Raw Vegan Cacao Bites

Ingredients:

  •      4 large dates, depitted
  •      2 – 2.5 cups hazeluts (you may soak them to increase digestibility, but it’s not necessary)
  •      about 10 pieces of dried apples
  •      water – enough to make the mix stick together
  •      1 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
  •      1-2 cups frozen cranberries
  •      1/2 cup cacao nibs
  •      1 tbsp raw coconut oil
  •      1 tsp ground cinnamon
  •      a pinch of sea salt
  •      1 tsp vanilla bean powder

Another News on Monsanto GM Corn

France is an outstanding country, it seems like they’re one of the few remaining nations that are not afraid to question and speak up against commonly acknowledged “truths” such as “safety” of GMO. In the meantime most of the America and Canada had been feeding on GMO products for the last 15 years, and others are joining the process. Here’s just another article.

Orange Carrot Juice

I found that drinking freshly squeezed juices in the morning really does help in cleansing process, and also helped me big time during my switch to veganism. Technically any juice is great, but the best combination I like is this orange carrot juice:

  • 3-4 carrots
  • 1 large orange
  • 1/2 to 1 average lemon
  • 1 average beet

You’ll need a powerful juicer such as Hamilton Beach. Peel/clean all of the ingredient and juice them. Voilà!

The taste of this juice is a wonderful blend of sweet, sour and even a tad salty.

Raw Zucchini Hummus

The first day went pretty well. Apart from various whole fruits and veggies, I had a salad with raw zucchini hummus – that’s right, hummus with nothing cooked in it, and in fact no chickpeas either. Instead, the main replacement ingredient is zucchini.

Raw Zucchini Hummus

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium zucchinis chopped
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 tbsp cold pressed olive oil
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 3 tbsp raw tahini paste
  • 3 tbsp raw sesame seeds
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Preparation:

In a powerful blender like VitaMix mix all ingredients until you get a thick paste – as there is no water added, first place zucchini pieces, and start mixing initially on lower settings gradually increasing the speed.

Raw Zucchini Hummus

Works well as a dip with pieces of vegetables or as dressing in salads. My salad for example has a handful of spinach, chopped carrot, 1/2 chopped avocado and sliced tomato, and of course salt&pepper. Light and tasty!

New lunar month, new decisions

Hey guys, the new lunar month has kicked in yesterday at 7pm estern time, and today, on day 2, is the best time to start doing something you’ve been planning for a long time but could never find inspiration to. The energy of today, and in fact of the whole first lunar week, is special – you sort of create a mould for your behaviour for the whole month, and if you wanted to start doing something healthy/useful/etcetc like jogging/no smoking/writing in your blog regularly;), then that’s the time to do it!

My goal will be to have less cooked foods this week, and focus on unprocessed vegetables and fruits. Go bulk and raw foods 🙂

Kind of funny to post this after an all-cooked samosa recipe, but hence the decision itself – I’ve been indulging too much in cooked foods recently. Now it’s time to try and change something:) Get ready for raw recipes!
